Ancillary Plan

Digipack

Front Cover

A spoof of a famous cover, possibly Best Of Bowie, or Best of Blur. Maybe something to do with the name of the album - Multiple Personality. This would keep with the theme of the music video, jokey and a spoof.

Album Research

Album Name

Album name was a hard decision for us as we feel that it is very important. Many albums have become well known and the name is key for that, Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart club is a prime example of this. Although the album is not believed to be the best, the name is still iconic and known by millions of people. It will probably be the first answer for most people when asked to name Beatles albums. Other artists name their album on their life as it is, Adele named her albums after her age when it was made, 19 and 21. This is a very simple and effective technique, and again is very memorable. Rock bands use extreme titles, such as Appetite For Destruction or The Queen Is Dead. This immediately gets the attention of their audience. However another option is to have a eponymous album (self titled). This has been used by many artists such as 10CC, Queen and Ricky Martin. It is most often used on debut albums as a way of easily promoting the album and the artist.

We have decided to call the album "Multiple Personality". Although we will spoof a lot in our video, we wanted to keep a sense of uniqueness. We believe the title would work well as a theme, due to multiple characters being used in the video.

Artists Name

Choosing my artists name was very important. Of course the original artist was Steve Harley, however we weren't allowed to use that name. We could change the name to Steve Farley, or another name similar however that wouldn't be believable. We could of chosen a stage name, such as Madonna, Cher, Prince or Bono, however I feel that is only really used for artists who take themselves very seriously. That would not of fit with the conventions of our project. Another option was to use one name, such as Kylie, Beyonce, or Adele. Many artists change their name because other artists have the same name, an example would be Emeli Sande who was originally born Adele Emeli Sande, however as Adele is a major artist she believed it would be a confusion. Also David Bowie changed his name, David Jones, as that was the name of the lead singer of the Monkee's. However we decided on my name, Martin Jay, this is because artists are using their names more to bring a sense of realism to their work. Examples of this is Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber and Olly Murs.

Roles

There is only 2 of us in Mercury productions.

Because  of this it means we shall try and share responsibilities equally. I shall perform in front of camera whilst Tom will film. We shall try and split editing between us, however Tom has more experience so will take on more. I shall make the Digipack with input from Tom.

Props

We shall use different props for both narrative and performance, this shall bring humour and a start/end to story.
In the narrative we shall use props to make links from someone to remembering the past and the past it self. An example of this would be myself seeing a pack of cards, then thinking back to playing cards with Paddington. The mis-en-scene would be very important for this to work. Other idea's would be using a frisbee, fifa/football game, driving in a car, picnic.
We shall use something like a picture at the start and end of the video, this shows that there is a equilibrium, then Paddington will leave, causing a disequilibrium, then shall return, so the picture is shown again to show the equilibrium is restored.
Also we shall use props for comedic value, an example of this is using a suitcase when Paddington returns. Of course the suit case would be bigger than him and it obvious he wouldn't use it as he is only seen with one outfit. We could also use the frisbee to hit him, he cannot catch it as he is only a stuffed bear.

Locations

For my narrative I shall shoot the video mostly around my house. That gives it the realistic feel, however for the flashbacks we shall shoot in various locations. The Frisbee scene will be filmed in my garden, and the FIFA scene will be filmed in my lounge.

Amarillo (Is this the way too?) is filmed mostly in corridors, so we shall shoot the footage of the spoof in the school corridors. A-wing in particular has a split where my backing singers can come from either side. We may also film outside on the pavement as Amarillo does use different locations in the video.

OK Go's Here we go again, will be filmed in the school gym. The original video uses treadmills, so we shall use the treadmills in the gym. It is also a big wide space to use a split screen effect.

Bohemian Rhapsody will be shot in a black room, probably the medical room at school, as it has no windows. A torch can then be used to light up my face to get the spoof similar to the original video.

Selecting videos to mimick

We had to decide what videos we were going to spoof for the performance element of our video. Due to resources such as locations and costumes we have decided on:

(Is this the way to) Amarillo - Tony Christie ft Peter Kay
Here We Go Again - OK Go
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

We only chose 3 because there is 3 chorus's and we also wanted to add narrative.

We believe these 3 videos are very iconic and relatively easy to achieve.

Paddington Bear

I look at all my childhood toys, from Buzzlight year to Charlie, a knitted clown I had, and spotted Paddington. Not only was this bear able to stand up, he was also a reasonable size to use. He was not too small you couldn't see him and he wasn't so big that it looked odd. He was the perfect choice for my music video. The fortunate thing about Paddington Bear was he is not just in the memory of my childhood, but the memories of many others, from all ages.

His first appearance in the public eye was in his book, A Bear Called Paddington and was published on 13th October 1958. In 1972 the first toy of him was created and his first TV series was broadcast in 1975. He has now had 21 series of books, over 80 episodes of his TV and millions of toys have been created of him. Also a new film about him has just started being made, so this shows he is still popular in modern culture.

The advantage of Paddington is that our audience will make an automatic emotional connection with him, as he is a recognizable figure of their past. His audience is not only in the UK but he has sold over 30 million books WORLDWIDE, and has thousands of different products in America, Asia, Australia,  Sotuth Africa and Europe.

By the audience having an emotional connection with the character means they are more likely to continue watching to see what happens.

Music video idea

To fit with what our target audience wants we had the idea or a comedic narrative and a comedic performance.

For performance we shall spoof various music videos, e.g. Amarillo, bohemian rhapsody.
For the narrative we shall have Paddington bear leaving me at the start, then myself having flash back of memories of what we have done. At the end Paddington shall return.

We shall use split screens to show there is performance me and narrative me.

Lyrics and meaning to them

Although the song seems upbeat and happy, it is actually about someone leaving. Steve Harley wrote it about ex band members who left. Because of this and the fact we want to keep it comedic we shall have a teddy bear leaving me and then in the end returning, for the narrative.

You've done it all, you've broken every code
And pulled the rebel to the floor
You spoilt the game, no matter what you say
For only metal - what a bore!
Blue eyes, blue eyes, how come you tell so many lies?

Chorus: Come up and see me, make me smile
Or do what you want, run on wild

There's nothing left, all gone and run away
Maybe you'll tarry for a while
It's just a test, a game for us to play
Win or lose, it's hard to smile
Resist, resist, it's from yourself you have to hide

Chorus: Come up and see me, make me smile
Or do what you want, run on wild

There ain't no more, you've taken everything
From my belief in Mother Earth
How can you ignore my faith in everything
Cos i know what Faith is and what it's worth
Away, away, and don't say maybe you'll try

Chorus: Come up and see me, make me smile
Or do what you want, run on wild
